Travelers Abroad Database

The Travelers Abroad Database is an essential tool in keeping MSU travelers healthy and safe when they travel abroad. All faculty, staff, and students going abroad on non-study abroad, university-affiliated travel must register in the Travelers Abroad Database.

Registration in the Travelers Abroad Database activates free international health insurance, evacuation and repatriation insurance, provides MSU with your contact information in the event of a crisis, and provides you with important pre-departure information.

Who Must Register

  • Faculty and staff going abroad on university-affiliated travel, and are not a study abroad program leader
  • Undergraduate and graduate students going abroad on university-affiliated travel, and are not participating in a study abroad program

Students proposing travel to a country with a U.S. Department of State must receive approval from the Provost. Compliance with travel registration procedures allows MSU to share important health and safety information pre-departure and to provide emergency services if necessary.

MSU units or departments are responsible for registering international travelers in the database using information provided on the Pre-Trip Authorization Form. Once the international trip is registered in the database the traveler will receive a confirmation email.

Access to the Travelers Abroad Database

Contact your department or unit's travel administrator to confirm you're being registered in the Travelers Abroad Database. If your department or unit is not yet using the database, the travel administrator should contact us by email (oihs(at)msu.edu) or telephone (517-884-2174) to obtain access.

Please provide 1) the name of the college, department, or office; 2) the name(s), e-mail address(es), and NetIDs of the travel administrator(s) requiring access to the database; and 3) the unit's 8-digit MAU/CUC.
