We are hiring a Student Office Assistant

The Student Office Assistant provides clerical support to International Studies and Programs’ (ISP) Office for International Health and Safety through international programming and incident management support, as well as contributing to training and communications materials and providing general administrative support. 

The Office of International Health and Safety (OIHS) is dedicated to overseeing health and safety concerns and serving as a first responder to emergencies involving students, faculty, and staff traveling internationally on behalf of MSU. The Director and Coordinator for International Health and Safety evaluate risk, plan for emergencies, and manage crises for the more than 3,000 students that travel internationally each year on education abroad programs and non-credit learning programs, as well as MSU faculty and staff involved in various international research and development projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain education abroad and other MSU international travel reports and health and safety incident reports.

  • Advise international travelers on MSU travel policy and lead students and student groups through the High-Risk Destination Travel Waiver process.

  • Provide support for Education Abroad student pre-departure orientation and faculty training, including managing D2L community enrollment, tracking training compliance, and distributing pre-departure materials.

  • Provide support to the MSU Global Travel Registry.

  • Country-specific and other related research as requested.

  • Monitor international news and events sharing with travelers as relevant and / or requested.

  • Serve as a focal point within OIHS for non-urgent inquiries by phone, email, and in-person.

  • Develop and maintain OIHS communications and engagement with external and campus stakeholders such as social media presence, updating website, developing printed materials, and public presentations.

  • General administrative duties such as assisting with meeting and event logistics, filing, and clerical support to the Risk and Security Assessment Committee.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skill

  • Knowledge of international issues, experience studying or traveling abroad a plus

  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel

  • Exhibits good judgment and maintains confidentiality

  • Experience with D2L and databases

Desired Start Date and Availability:

Ideal candidate will be available for 20-29 hours per week during the spring semester. We are looking for someone to start immediately and work until May 2020.
